Q: What inspired you to host a party and tie a charitable cause into it?
A. Because I usually get a lot of presents that I don’t really need so instead I thought I could give it to people who couldn’t afford it (plus it was my mom’s idea). To be honest – I wasn’t super excited about it until I went to meet Max at Leveling the Playing Field.
Q. Why Leveling the Playing Field?
A. Because I love sports and I want other kids to be able to enjoy them as much as I do. When I went to see all the equipment and talk to Max, I realized how cool the idea was.
Q. How did you organize/ask guests?
A. I helped my mom write an email that was sent out to all the guests and we added a link to the evite.
Q. What did you collect?
A. We got a lot of used sports equipment including soccer balls, cleats, lacrosse sticks, lacrosse balls and shin guards. We also got over $500 in donations directly to Leveling the Playing Field!
Q. How easy was it to drop off the donated items?
A. It was super easy. The owner was really responsive and nice! He is there all the time so it made it easy to go after school. Plus they even gave us a bin to collect everything at the party!
Q. Would you do it again?
A. Definitely (just maybe not for my birthday next year – I kind of want presents again ;)…

About Leveling the Playing Field
Leveling the Playing Field gives underprivileged children the opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of athletic involvement. Studies show that students who participate in athletics have higher grade point averages, attendance rates, standardized test scores, educational aspirations and healthier habits.
They accept a huge selection of gently used sporting equipment. But be sure to check their list to make sure your items are on it before donating. Sorry, badminton lovers.
Staffed by just the Founder and the Board, this organization could certainly use your help. Volunteer at the Warehouse, Run Your Own Collection Drive, Help Pick-Up and Drop Off Donations. Just think you could be helping the next Michael Jordan get a step up!
