Silver Spring Cares works to strengthen the Silver Spring community through the power of connection.
We believe in the power of connection. We work to connect people with, and engage them in, all of the great work being done by different nonprofits in the Silver Spring area, providing opportunities for donation, fundraising, and volunteerism.
Founded in 2017 Silver Spring Cares is the brainchild of Liz Brent, founder of Go Brent Team. Having worked over 20 years as a Realtor in Silver Spring, Liz was familiar with the diverse social, racial and economic landscape of our area. Between working with clients and raising her three active children, she was constantly impressed by the generosity of people always ready to rise up and support each other in times of need. The apartment building fire and explosion in the summer of 2016 showed how powerful the generosity of Silver Spring residents could be. Always a people-connector, Liz went to work, thinking about how to connect our more vulnerable neighbors and the nonprofits that support them with those with the ability to give. Silver Spring Cares was launched to make those connections.
Some highlights from our first year include connecting over 4,000 donors and volunteers to our robust network of 30 nonprofits on our website, delivering over 3,000 meals through our Casseroles for a Cause program, warming over 350 families through our Warm Clothing Drive. This January we began our Little Drops Silver Spring program and have already raised $5,500 in small individual donations for nonprofits. And, we’re just getting started. We’re currently working to establish a Silver Spring Cares Emergency Fund to provide limited emergency assistance to help individuals and families facing a short-term financial setback.
